Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
After 6 days of Dharna, the two newly elected MLAs - Sayantika Bandopadhyay and Rayat Hossain Sarkar on Friday took oath in a special assembly session. Speaker Biman Banerjee administered the oath despite the orders of Raj Bahwan. Governor CV Ananda Bose had nominated the deputy speaker to administer the oath.
In a statement issued by Bose, it was declared that Dr. Asish Banerjee, Bengal Deputy Speaker, will administer the oath. However, Asish Banerjee told a section of the media that although he has yet to receive any communique from the Raj Bhawan, he will decline the offer even after he gets it.
He contended that when the Speaker of the House is in the city, he should have been nominated to preside over the swearing-in ceremony of the two Trinamool MLAs.
Baranagar MLA Sayantika Bandyopadhyay and Bhagabangola legislator Rayat Hossain Sarkar began their sit-in protest on June 27 and continued on June 28, July 1, 2, 3, and 4.
